END OF ALICE

Early day motion 374, tabled 30 October 1997 by Ronnie Campbell (Labour). Signed by 9 members.

That this House notes the concern expressed by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children on the novel The End of Alice about a pervert who rapes a 12 year-old girl before stabbing her 64 times; fears that the novel could encourage paedophiles to believe their activities are acceptable and to claim that children collude with their abusers in that they somehow seduce innocent adults; calls on the publishers, Anchor, part of Transworld, to withdraw the book from sale; and asks booksellers and readers to boycott it.

Signatures by party: Labour 7, Labour/Co-operative 1, Plaid Cymru 1.
