SEWAGE TREATMENT AND SEA WATER QUALITY
Early day motion 357, tabled 27 October 1997 by Desmond Turner (Labour). Signed by 79 members.
That this House deplores the current and continuing practice of water companies in discharging raw sewage through sea outfalls, having no plans in many cases for enhancing the treatment of the discharged sewage so that the microbial contamination of coastal waters can be prevented; and therefore requests the Government to examine the setting of higher standards of sewage treatment that would be made a statutory requirement.
