Early day motion 331, tabled 30 July 1997 by Michael Clapham (Labour). Signed by 81 members.

That this House is alarmed at the rise in the number of people killed at work which according to Health and Safety Executive figures has risen by almost 20 per cent. to 302 workers killed in the year to April 1997 compared with 256 the year before; records its concern at the disturbing rise in the rate of major injuries in every industrial sector with the overall figure up by two thirds; and asks the Government to speedily introduce stronger laws on manslaughter at work, to review legal protections for self-employed people and to introduce a moratorium on cuts to the budget of the Health and Safety Executive.
