ABOLITION OF RECOMMENDED RETAIL PRICES IN THE DOMESTIC ELECTRICAL GOODS MARKET
Early day motion 647, tabled 14 January 1998 by Lord Chidgey (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 60 members.
That this House notes with concern proposals by the Department of Trade and Industry to abolish the recommended retail price; deplores the intention to substantially alter the trading arrangements of the Combined Independent Holdings Group; believes that the proposed changes will encourage monopolistic tendencies which are all too prevalent in this sector; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to reconsider the implications of these proposals for both the independent electrical retailers and consumers at large.
