VAT ON HEALTH CARE PRODUCTS

Early day motion 523, tabled 28 November 1997 by Paul Burstow (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 27 members.

That this House notes that in December 1996 a VAT tribunal ruled that home delivered incontinence products should be zero rated; further notes that when in opposition the Labour Party rightly criticised the last government for imposing VAT at 17.5 per cent; is concerned to learn that Statutory Instrument 2744 of 1997 laid by the Treasury on 18November for consideration in Committee on 2 December, will reverse the Tribunal's decision; and calls on the Government to withdraw its proposals for imposing VAT on incontinence products.

Signatures by party: Liberal Democrat 17, Labour 5, Plaid Cymru 2, UUP 2, Conservative 1.
