FOOD STANDARDS AGENCY

Early day motion 435A1, tabled 14 November 1997 by Ann Winterton (Conservative). Signed by 3 members.

at end add 'supports the principle that rational scientific argument should underpin food safety decisions; believes that consumers have a right of access to safe food products of their choice; regrets the irrational decision of the Committee on Toxicity to recommend restrictions on the retail sale of higher dose vitamin B6 food supplements; and invites the Minister for Food Safety to ask the Committee on Toxicity to look again at this issue, to consult more widely with informed scientific opinion, and to revise its recommendations on safety levels so that they are more appropriate to nutrients rather than poisons.'.

Signatures by party: Liberal Democrat 2, Conservative 1.
