SCOTTISH ú1 BANKNOTE

Early day motion 430, tabled 11 November 1997 by Alex Salmond (Scottish National Party). Signed by 8 members.

That this House recognises the importance of the ú1 note to the people of Scotland and the widespread desire to keep this 270 year old monetary tradition alive; further recognises that the note issue has been extremely valuable to the Scottish commercial banks in both publicity and financial terms; calls for the continuation of the right of issue even given the advent of the Euro; and further calls upon the Royal Bank of Scotland to preserve this distinctive part of Scottish identity perhaps by more use of the successful commemorative issues for the ú1 denomination note.

Signatures by party: Scottish National Party 6, Conservative 1, Liberal Democrat 1.
