WORLD CUP `98 TICKET ALLOCATIONS

Early day motion 845, tabled 26 February 1998 by Lord Jones of Cheltenham (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 30 members.

That this House condemns the actions of the French ticketing authorities in failing to provide a sufficient allocation of tickets for English and Scottish fans for the opening matches of the Football World Cup; notes that this is in breach of Single Market regulations and completely disregards the instructions issued by the European Commission; and calls on the Prime Minister to use Britain's presidency of the European Union to press for swift punitive action and a proper allocation of tickets for British fans hoping to attend this festival of football.
