Early day motion 797, tabled 16 February 1998 by Michael Clapham (Labour). Signed by 106 members.

That this House welcomes the seminar organised by the TUC on 17th February to raise awareness about the dangers of asbestos and wishes their campaign well; expresses its continuing concern that there are 11 deaths each day arising from exposure to asbestos; notes the incontrovertible evidence of the Health and Safety Executive that all forms of asbestos including white asbestos are potentially fatal; reaffirms its support for a ban on the importation of asbestos and products containing asbestos into the United Kingdom and EU; and urges Government action to protect employees and the public from asbestos already in use by ensuring that legislation is properly enforced.
