CONFIDENCE IN THE BBC
Early day motion 766, tabled 10 February 1998 by John Marek (Labour). Signed by 85 members.
That this House has confidence in the BBC in providing accurate news, objective analysis and fair comment; disagrees with recent criticism that it is a 'down market, dumbed-down, over-staffed, over-bureaucratic, ridiculous organisation'; and urges it to continue to resist pressure from those who otherwise cannot get their own way.
Signatures by party: Labour 72, Liberal Democrat 6, Labour/Co-operative 2, Plaid Cymru 2, Scottish National Party 2, Conservative 1.
