RACING INDUSTRY

Early day motion 704, tabled 28 January 1998 by Laurence Robertson (Conservative). Signed by 42 members.

That this House asks the government to recognise the problems facing the racing industry; believes that these problems have come about largely because of Government regulation of the industry; therefore urges the Government to cut the betting duty from 6.75 per cent to 5 per cent, allowing the Levy Board to distribute the difference throughout racing; and also urges the government to consider making a measured deregulation of betting and racecourses.

Signatures by party: Conservative 38, Liberal Democrat 4.
