SCHOOL TRANSPORT IN CHESHIRE

Early day motion 1012, tabled 12 March 1998 by Nicholas Winterton (Conservative). Signed by 4 members.

That this House condemns Labour-controlled Cheshire County Council, with Liberal Democrat support, for their plans to withdraw free school travel for all 16 to 18 year olds in full-time secondary education in the county; expresses concern at the likely effect on low income families and on families with more than one child in the age group; and regrets that the policy would unfairly discriminate against pupils in rural areas, and those attending denominational schools.

Signatures by party: Conservative 3, Labour 1.
