PROPOSED CHANNEL 5 DRAMATISATION OF THE WEST MURDERS

Early day motion 1444, tabled 17 June 1998 by Tess Kingham (Labour). Signed by 103 members.

That this House recognises the distress and trauma of those affected by the West murders, not only the victims' families but also the people of Gloucester; deplores the attempts by the Portman Entertainment Group to make a dramatisation of these horrific events; deplores the fact that Channel 5 television is considering screening a mini-series about the West murders in order to make profits from people's misery; and calls upon the Government to use any means at its disposal to convey a message of disapproval to Channel 5 regarding such insensitive broadcasting.

Signatures by party: Labour 80, Labour/Co-operative 8, Liberal Democrat 8, Conservative 5, Plaid Cymru 1, Scottish National Party 1.
