CONDUCT OF THE PRIME MINISTER AND PARLIAMENT

Early day motion 1684, tabled 22 October 1998 by Crispin Blunt (Conservative). Signed by 14 members.

That this House condemns the abuse of Parliament by the Prime Minister when, whilst the House was debating Defence at 4.30 p.m. on Tuesday 20th October, the Prime Minister was briefing Philip Webster of The Times and other European journalists about a major change of defence policy towards the European Union; and demands that Defence Ministers make clear whether they were a party to this abuse when, despite the issue being raised by the Right honourable Member for Wealden and the honourable Member for Stratford-upon-Avon, they gave no indication that any such change in policy was contemplated during the debate in the House.

Signatures by party: Conservative 13, Liberal Democrat 1.
