FRENCH GOVERNMENT POLICY ON THE MULTILATERAL AGREEMENT ON INVESTMENT TREATY
Early day motion 1669, tabled 20 October 1998 by Alan Simpson (Labour). Signed by 42 members.
That this House congratulates the Jospin government in France for its decision not to take part in continued negotiations on the proposed MAI treaty; recognises that this has also strengthened opposition to the treaty amongst countries in the developing world; and urges all governments to develop international treaties which promote civic rights over corporate rights, sustainability over exploitation, and democratic accountability over global deregulation.
