KURDISH CEASEFIRE

Early day motion 1662, tabled 19 October 1998 by John Austin (Labour). Signed by 28 members.

That this House welcomes the recent unilateral cease-fire declared by the PKK in south east Turkey; believes that there can be no military victory for either side in the 15 year old war between the Kurdish people and the Turkish state; and calls on the Turkish government to recognise the Kurdish identity, to end all human rights violations and take the opportunity presented by the cease-fire to create a peaceful, political solution to the conflict.

Signatures by party: Labour 22, Labour/Co-operative 3, Liberal Democrat 2, Plaid Cymru 1.
