ESSEX COUNTY COUNCIL OLD PEOPLE'S HOMES

That this House deplores the proposal of the Conservative-led Essex County Council to sell 33 of its 36 old people's homes; believes that this will deprive elderly people of a proper choice of accommodation provided by the public and private sectors; is concerned that the disposal will cause anxiety to existing residents and their families; is dismayed that employees will experience less favourable terms and conditions if the homes are privatised; and calls upon the government to intervene to discourage Essex County Council from this mass disposal of its old people's homes.
