ASBESTOS DEMONSTRATION AT CANADA HOUSE 30th JUNE 1998

Early day motion 1492, tabled 30 June 1998 by Michael Clapham (Labour). Signed by 50 members.

That this House congratulates the Construction Safety Campaign and Liverpool Victims of Asbestos for organising the Ban White Asbestos Demonstration outside Canada House on 30th June to focus attention on Canada's flawed argument that they should have the freedom to appeal to the World Trade Organisation for the right to peddle their deadly dust around the world; and calls on the UK Government to push ahead with a unilateral ban and join the other nine European countries who have already banned the substance.

Signatures by party: Labour 43, Liberal Democrat 4, Labour/Co-operative 2, Plaid Cymru 1.
